Bar Kupershtein

21

Bar Kupershtein is the kind of person who wouldn't hesitate to change someone's flat tire, even if he's dressed in white. Bar is the eldest sibling among five brothers and sisters and is the main breadwinner for the family.
Bar worked at every opportunity to support and provide for his family, including the Saturday he was kidnapped; He was working as a security guard at the Nova trans music festival near Kibbutz Re’im.
On Saturday October 7, amidst Hamas terrorist's surprise attack, Bar, a medic in a combat unit, was off-duty while at the festival. According to survivors of the massacre at the festival, Bar selflessly tended to those injured; providing first aid, rather than seeking refuge. His actions during the chaos showcased his unwavering commitment to assist, even in the direst circumstances.
Bar’s last known location was traced to 8 AM. Subsequently, alarming footage and images surfaced, revealing Bar, tied up and lying on the ground, among other Israeli hostages, somewhere in Gaza.
At 21, Bar moved out of home and in with his grandparents, making his room available for his disabled father's caregiver. Bar’s grandparents became the people closest to him over the last three years. His grandmother Faina praised his pure heart and golden hands, lovingly describing him as the sweetest child, utterly charming, who gladly helps everyone. His grandfather Michael, a Holocaust survivor, stated that the actions of Hamas are more atrocious than those of the Nazis, highlighting the family's anguish since October 7th, devoid of any information about Bar. "My mom (Faina) is still waiting for him, with his clothes ironed, to walk through the door," Bar's aunt Ora shares.
Despite the grim situation, Ora remains hopeful, confident in Bar's resilience and his instinct to care for others even now. His dedication to his family and zest for life were evident even in the smallest actions, like moving out to support his ailing father.
Ora's critique of the initial hostage negotiation reflects a deep-seated fear and pain—pondering the fate of the men left behind, questioning the moral compass guiding such decisions.
"We're sorry we can't help you; come back while we're still alive." Bar’s loving, sweet grandparents cry out in a simple, heart-breaking plea. Time is of essence here! It is time for Bar to come back home to his family.
