Cpt. Daniel Perez, 22, from Yad Binyamin.
Daniel Perez made Aliya from South Africa with his family, and they settled down in Yad Binyamin. Known to have a passion for extreme sports and always being in shape, his father rabbi Doron Perez said about him: “Daniel is a strong man, both mentally and physically.”
Daniel served as a platoon commander in the 7th Armored Brigade’s 77th Battalion. On Saturday October 7, Daniel's tank was hit by RPG fire while defending Kibbutz Nahal Oz from Hamas terrorists, as they launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel. Daniel was kidnapped alongside a few of his teammates who are believed to have survived the battle.
Yonatan Perez, Daniel's elder sibling, was injured in a separate battle on October 7. Following his recuperation, Yonatan rejoined his unit. Subsequently, amidst profound sorrow and the absence left by his brother Daniel, who remains captive in Gaza, Yonatan entered into marriage.
On Sunday March 17th 2024 the Perez family received the devastating announcement that Daniel was killed on October 7th, and his body was taken from the Gaza border, following a battle with terrorists during the Hamas onslaught. His death was declared by the Military Rabbinate based on findings and new intelligence information. The findings allow Daniel Perez to be buried according to Jewish law, while his body remains in Gaza.
