Gad Haggai

Gad Haggai

73

Gad Haggai, a resident of Kibbutz Nir Oz, was a soulful musician and flutist, known for his culinary skills and vibrant sense of humor. Alongside his wife, Judy Weinstein, aged 70, Gad was a devoted father to four children and grandfather to seven grandchildren.
Judy, an English teacher dedicated to mindfulness and therapy, moved to Israel in the 70s, volunteering at Kibbutz Ein Hashofet where she met Gad. In the early 90s, they made Kibbutz Nir Oz their home, nurturing their family and cherishing their lives together.
Their daughter lovingly recalls, "Dad, you've always been true to yourself, striving to be the best version of you. A master of wind instruments, a health-conscious athlete, you've lived your values, desiring peace even when disillusioned by our country's loss of its way. Your love, especially for mom, has been our guiding light. We miss your laughter every day."
On the morning of October 7, during their routine morning walk on the kibbutz, Gad and Judy found themselves in the midst of a surprise attack, perpetrated by Hamas terrorists from the Gaza Strip, targeting innocent civilians, shattering their peaceful lives with unprecedented cruelty.
After seeking refuge, Judy called for medical assistance, reporting that they were shot by terrorists on motorcycles. Judy managed to document the violent attack and sent the video to the family. Tragically, the help they desperately needed never reached them.
On December 21, a heartbreaking revelation came: Gad had been murdered on the day of the attack, his body held by Hamas terror organization. A week later, it was confirmed Judy shared the same fate.
Their family, profoundly impacted by the loss of both parents, emphasized the government's failure to protect them: "They were neglected for 20 years in the Gaza envelope, abandoned on October 7, and even now… The State of Israel must bring the hostages back because without their return, we have no right to exist.”

Dear Family of Gad Haggai,

We have not forgotten you, your fate, and that of your loved ones. We are unhappy, that Gad is dead. You are forever in our hearts. Israel is not alone. You are not alone. There are also people in Germany who stand behind you and want to encourage you. There is a reason to look forward and keep going. It is a difficult, rocky road back to life, but I am sure it can be done. Whether you are surviving hostages or have lost loved ones, we wish you comfort in your grief. We pray for you.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10
