Omri Miran

Omri Miran, a resident of Kibbutz Nahal Oz, boasts a life story that bridges the serene landscapes of northern Israel to the vibrant community life of the south. Originally hailing from Yesod HaMa'ala, Omri found his calling and future in the kibbutz after regular visits to a dear friend captivated his heart. It was here that he laid down roots, marrying Lishai and welcoming two daughters, Roni and Alma, into their lives. A practitioner of Shiatsu, Omri not only nurtured his own family and clinic, but also tended to the kibbutz's green expanses. Known for his sociable nature and the tranquility he imparted, Omri, as Lishai fondly says, had a knack for caring for both people and trees.
The tranquility of this idyllic life was shattered on October 7, during the holiday of Simchat Torah, as Hamas terrorists launched a surprise attack on Kibbutz Nahal Oz and its neighboring southern communities. The ensuing hours saw the Miran family, along with their community, plunged into a nightmare of violence and fear. Amidst the chaos, Omri and Lishai realized the severity of the event as WhatsApp messages signaled a breach of unprecedented terror into their homes.
In those harrowing moments, the family's resilience was tested as they were forced out of their sanctuary by the terrorists, using their 16-year-old neighbor, Tomer Arava Eliaz, as a decoy to gain entry. This act of terror saw the brutal execution of Tomer. His mother, Dikla Arava, was murdered at home, marking a profound tragedy for their family, their friends and the entire community.
The ordeal further unfolded as the Miran family was taken to a nearby house, where they were detained alongside another family. There, the terrorists murdered the 18-year-old daughter. Shortly thereafter, Omri and the other father were handcuffed and taken away, leaving Lishai with parting words of hope and love.

The terrorists' audacity extended to broadcasting this violation of human dignity live, leveraging the personal Facebook accounts of their victims for a global audience.
Lishai and her neighbor were left to fend for themselves and the children until Israeli military forces could secure their release.
Fifty days of uncertainty followed before Lishai received the news that Omri was alive, albeit still held hostage within the shadowy confines of Hamas tunnels, his exact whereabouts a mystery.
Now, as they find temporary refuge in Kibbutz Kramim, Lishai, little Roni and baby Alma await Omri's return, holding onto hope amidst the trauma. "Roni is slowly speaking about the ordeal," Lishai shared, her voice a blend of maternal care and unwavering strength. "I want her to stop screaming for her father. I want him here with us. We must never forget our captives.”
