Eli Sharabi, ever the optimist: seeing the world through his eyes means to see all the opportunities the world has to offer. Charming and funny, he has a knack for making people laugh. With Eli around, you know there is someone you can trust to be there when needed; a loyal and committed friend who enjoys social gatherings, generous to all and ready to offer a helping hand.
Family means the world to Eli, an exemplary father to his beautiful daughters Noiya and Yahel. His wisdom, responsibility and diligence at work, and endless devotion to his family are his strengths. Eli is also a football fan, especially of Manchester United. He loves going to football matches on his trips to the UK to visit his British family; everyone has a place in his heart. Eli’s family says that his motto in life is “always move forward”.
The five siblings of the Sharabi family from Tel Aviv form a warm and close-knit family. Brother Sharon says: "Yossi and Eli are the diamonds: sensitive and supportive, always making sure that everyone is well and doing fine. They moved to Kibbutz Be’eri 30 years ago, first Eli and then Yossi, because they wanted to be part of the community lifestyle of a Kibbutz. We grew up in Tel Aviv, and this is a bit of a change, to move from such a busy place to such a quiet place, or at least a place that was quiet, until October 7."
On Saturday the 7th of October, the Hamas organization launched an unprecedented murderous attack on southern Israel. On that horrible day, Hamas terrorists broke into the Sharabi home on Kibbutz Be’eri. Tragically, they murdered Lianne, Eli’s wife, and both his daughters, Noiya and Yahel. The terrorists kidnapped Eli into the Gaza Strip.
Eli's brother, Yossi, was also kidnapped to Gaza that day. On Tuesday, January 16th, the Sharabi family received the devastating announcement about the death of Yossi Sharabi, after 102 days in Hamas captivity. Yossi left behind three daughters and a wife: Yuval, Ofir, and Oren, and his wife Nira. The heart-broken family is committed to recovering Yossi’s body and giving him the decent burial he deserves in Israel.
At the time these lines are being written, Eli Sharabi remains captive in Gaza. His family, his community and the entire nation are anxiously anticipating his safe return home.
