Itzik Elgarat

68

Itzik Elgarat is a resident of kibbutz Nir Oz and father of two. Despite holding Danish citizenship and having his two daughters residing in Denmark, Itzik has always maintained strong ties to Israel. After marrying a Swedish citizen, he spent about 15 years living in Sweden before returning to his homeland.
Itzik is known as a man of the world, passionate about traveling and nature. He is also a devoted fan of the Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team. Despite the hardships he has faced, Itzik remains a pillar of strength, cherishing every moment of life and treasuring his roles as a beloved father, brother, and uncle.
Itzik was kidnapped from the safety of his home on Saturday 7 October. As terrorists infiltrated his home, he managed to speak briefly with his beloved brother Danny, uttering the chilling words: "Danny, this is the end." Fortunately, Itzik and Danny's sister, Rachel, who also lives on the kibbutz, managed to escape, unharmed. Only a month and a half after Itzik’s abduction, his family received the news that he was alive but injured.
Danny Elgarat went on a hunger strike at ‘Hostages Square’, Tel Aviv, criticizing government members and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for mixing political interests with efforts to free the hostages. “I feel the hunger, and I think I can now represent my brother much better when I feel what he's feeling," said Itzik’s devoted brother, Danny. The Elgarat family and the Nir Oz community are anxiously awaiting his safe return home.
