Joshua Loitu Mollel

21

Joshua Loitu Mollel, an agricultural intern from Tanzania, was residing in Kibbutz Nahal Oz. Having completed his diploma in agriculture studies in Morogoro, Tanzania, Joshua arrived in Israel in mid-September 2023, eager to expand his knowledge in farming with aspirations of launching his own agricultural business back home. His journey marked his first venture outside Tanzania, carrying his father's advice to be on his best behavior and to maximize his internship opportunity. Described as polite, obedient, and dedicated to his work, Joshua was one of roughly 350 Tanzanian nationals in Israel, most of whom are students in agricultural fields.
Working at the dairy farm in Kibbutz Nahal Oz, Joshua was just beginning to pursue his dream when the Hamas terror organization attacked southern Israel on October 7. This turned his aspirations into a nightmare, only two and a half weeks after his arrival. As bomb alarms sounded, Joshua, along with fellow Tanzanian interns Ezekiel Kitiku and the late Clemence Mtenga from Kibbutz Nir Oz, sought refuge. Subsequently, Joshua was declared missing, and all contact with him was lost. In a tragic turn, Clemence was declared murdered by Hamas terrorists on November 18, his body repatriated to Tanzania.
The ordeal plunged Joshua's family into despair, his father lamenting the transformation of his non-combatant son into a casualty of Hamas brutality. The longing for Joshua's safe return haunted his four young siblings daily.
The grim reality was unveiled in a video distributed on social media, documenting Joshua's murder at the hands of Hamas terrorists, marking a violent end to his life.
Kibbutz Nahal Oz announced on December 13 that Joshua Loitu Mollel was killed in captivity, with his body still retained by Hamas in Gaza, shattering the dreams and hearts of his family and friends, and leaving a void in the community that had embraced him.
