Michel Nisenbaum

Michel Nisenbaum

59

Michel, originally from Brazil, immigrated to Israel at the age of 13 on his own. He resides in Sderot with his family, working in the IT sector. Recently, Michel completed his tour guide training with “More Derech” (מורה דרך) and, in his fifties, began yet another career.
"He approached this with immense love; he's just someone who has a deep affection for others," Uri Alon, who runs “Shvil Hasalat” where Michel is a tour guide, mentioned. "He managed to connect with a variety of traveler groups, including Argentinians, Brazilians, and Israelis. His most recent projects have involved guiding Bedouin children from the diaspora on educational tours to explore desert agriculture technology."
Family is Michel’s highest priority, serving as a devoted father and grandfather, with his grandchildren being his joy. Known for his readiness to assist others, Michel enjoys domestic travel, especially off-roading in jeeps and 4x4s.

On the morning of October 7th, Michel set out to rescue his granddaughter from the Re'im base, where she spent the weekend with her officer father. Although his granddaughter was safely evacuated hours later, Michel disappeared en route.
The last communication with Michel was at 06:57 on that Saturday, as he departed from his home in Sderot. "We were oblivious to the unfolding tragedy," his daughter recounted. At 07:23, upon calling him, an individual answered in Arabic, stating ‘Hamas Hamas’. The sole lead they possess is a video shared on social media showing Hamas terrorists examining Israeli IDs and belongings, including Michel's license and documents.
Michel's family, friends, and all of us are eagerly anticipating his safe return home. Let's pause for a moment to listen to one of Michel's favorite songs, dedicating it to his hoped-for comeback: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUOTuPY6kBI

The IDF announced on 24/05/24 that during an overnight special operation in Jabalia, Israeli security forces rescued the body of Michel Nisenbaum, 59, from Sderot. Michel was captured on October 7 while attempting to rescue his four-year-old granddaughter from the Gaza Division’s base near Re’im. He was abducted from the Mefalsim intersection to Gaza and killed by Hamas terrorists.
Michel’s family, friends, and community are devastated by this immense loss.
