Dear Family of Mohammad Alatrash,

We have not forgotten you, your fate, and that of your loved ones. You are forever in our hearts. Israel is not alone. You are not alone. There are also people in Germany who stand behind you and want to encourage you. There is a reason to look forward and keep going. It is a difficult, rocky road back to life, but I am sure it can be done. Whether you are surviving hostages or have lost loved ones, we wish you comfort in your grief. We are unhappy, that Mohammad is dead. We pray for you.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

We, the members of the Bet Torah Congregation in Mt. Kisco New York, were saddened to learn of Mohammad's death. The Rabbis shared this about Mohammad during a Shabbat Torah service. We then sang Acheinu (אחינו):

Sgt. Maj. Mohammad Alatrash, was a 39-year-old Bedouin, working in the Bedouin Trackers Unit in the Gaza Division of the IDF when he was killed fighting the terrorists near Kibbutz Nahal Oz and his body taken to Gaza. Originally declared missing, Mohammad’s family members were told in December that he was taken hostage. After seven long months of uncertainty, in June 2024, the family received word of his death and he was declared a fallen IDF soldier.

Mohammad was a son, a husband, and a father, supporting two wives and thirteen children, including a baby one-month-old at the time of his abduction. He also was sibling to twenty-two brothers and sisters. A special man, the leader of the family.

Mohammad Alatrash, זכרונו לברכה, may his memory be for a blessing.

Mohammad's name was prayed today in remembrance. Act on their behalf, Lord. Take up their cause without delay, so that You fulfill through them Your verse from Isaiah: “Those redeemed by the Lord will return; they will enter Zion with singing, and everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.”

So may it be Your will, and let us say: Amen.

Mohammad, you are gone, I know nothing of your life path but I feel deeply uncomfortable hearing the protesting positions coming from my country.  You paid for it with your life I am not able to take your place and fully understand all these issues that give rise to doubt in too many people in your fights for freedom that should not cause any protest And I regret, without knowing you, to lose you I only hope for one thing with a minimum of suffering that your family and your people. I am not a believer but there is no doubt that you will reappear through the door even greater than you already are

Dear Mohammad, how very sad to hear that you are no longer with us. I wished you could have lived a much longer life, as you deserved, surrounded by your family. How very, very sad that hey have to miss their husband and father. I'm sending them all the love and support in the world. You are a hero and you will not be forgotten

תחזירו לי אותו עכשיו הביתה."

המילים האלה גרמו לי לחשוב קצת יותר על נקודת המבט של המשפחות בכל הסיפור הזה ולנסות ולהבין קצת יותר לעומק מה הן עוברות בכל הימים האלו, וגם לחשוב על כל הקשיים שאתם חווים בתקופה הזו.
