Oded Lifshitz

Oded is a retired journalist from Kibbutz Nir Oz. He was one of the founding members of the Kibbutz in 1955. Oded is married to Yocheved, a former physical education teacher and current photographer. They have four children, as well as grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Oded and Yocheved Lifshitz are peace activists who volunteered for the Israeli organization “The Road to Recovery” (בדרך להחלמה) , which helps Palestinian citizens in need of medical care get transportation to Israeli hospitals across the border.

On October 7, 2023, during the Nir Oz massacre, Oded and his wife were kidnapped from their home to the Gaza Strip by Hamas terrorists, and their home was set on fire. Their daughter, Sharon, spoke in the news stating that her parents were in danger, as they needed medication and that her mother used an oxygen mask during her sleep. On October 23rd 2023, After 17 days being held by Hamas, Yocheved was released on ‘humanitarian’ grounds together with her neighbor, Nurit Cooper (79). Oded is still there, and he is terribly missed at home.
