Ofra Keidar

Ofra Keidar

70

Ofra was kidnapped while she went out for a morning walk in the fields outside her home on Kibbutz Be'eri, a walk from which she hasn't returned. Ofra is a mother of three children; Elad, Oren and Yael, a grandmother, and an aunt.
On Saturday October 7, Kibbutz Be’eri was attacked by Hamas terrorists, alongside many other communities in the south of Israel. Ofra’s husband Sami, who suffered from Parkinson's disease, was murdered while he was confined to a sofa in their home. Their daughter Yael Keidar (41), who has special needs, was locked alone in the home's bomb shelter and thus saved herself. "I heard the terrorists talking among themselves inside the house," Yael said. She waited until there was complete silence in the house before she emerged from the safe room. Several hours later, IDF soldiers arrived and rescued her.
"I miss my parents very much," Yael shares. To get through this difficult time, she writes in a diary, sharing everything that's on her heart. "I really want to know how my mother is doing. The people who took her are bad people, and I hope they release her soon and that everyone will be healthy," she wrote in her diary.
Hanna Shadmi, Ofra’s sister and Yael’s aunt, said: "I'm sure that as hard as it is for me, it's even harder for Yael. She and Ofra have a very close bond. But Yael has a lot of strength, and she's managing to get through this period like a hero."
Her relatives say that Ofra always managed to ease difficult situations, "For her, everything was always fine." She was very much involved in the lives of those around her. Ofra loved gardening, swimming, tending to the kibbutz' pets. She cherished her quiet, early morning walks among the orchard trees, the paths she loved so much. Ofra is greatly missed every moment since that Saturday when she was kidnapped.
It was after 55 long days that the Keidar family received the devastating news: Ofra had been murdered and taken into Gaza. Kibbutz Be'eri spokeswoman stated "The kibbutz community embraces the family of Ofra: her children, her grandchildren, and all her family members, sharing in their profound grief. We demand her return along with the other captives."
