Sagui Dekel Chen

35

Sagui lives on Kibbutz Nir Oz with his wife Avital, their two-year-old daughter Gali and six-year-old daughter Bar. He really likes to refurbish old buses and make them serviceable, and in the early morning hours of Saturday October 7, he was at the kibbutz's blacksmith shop, working on one of the buses.
He first noticed the terrorists while about 200 yards from his home, and immediately alerted others. Ensuring his family's safety in the safe room, Sagui joined the kibbutz security team to confront the attackers. The last contact with him was at 9:30 a.m., as reported by his father, Jonathan Dekel-Chen, a Hebrew University professor. Sagui's wife, Avital, and their children were traumatized, hearing Sagui engage in face-to-face combat.
Sagui's mother, Neomit, aged 63, was also involved in the incident. She was taken captive but managed to return to the kibbutz after an IDF intervention.

Jonathan, Sagui’s father, has been actively involved with the American delegation, raising awareness for the hostages, including his son. He emphasizes the human impact of the crisis, representing not just his family but his community, as they hope for the safe return of their loved ones.
Sagi's wife, Avital, gave birth to their third daughter on 25/1/24- while her husband was held hostage by Hamas. Sagui is still there, his family misses him terribly and his baby girl is yet to meet her father.
