Yossi Sharabi

53

Yossi Sharabi, a true family man; a devoted, loving and humble man, Yossi is adored by his wife Nira and their three daughters Yuval, Ofir and Oren. The pillar of his family, Yossi was just brimming with zest for life. Yossi loved nature, was an excellent surfer and a fan of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Maccabi Tel Aviv. “He was a loyal friend who helped everyone in a heartbeat, capable of anything and a man of peace”, in his wife’s words.
Dedicated and industrious, Yossi worked at Be'eri’s Printing business for 23 years. He started as the operator of the envelope and wrapping machines, worked as a warehouseman, and later held management positions in the logistics department. In recent years, he served as the manager of the facilities, security, and safety of the printing business, handling everything with responsibility and commitment. His colleagues say: "Yossi was an attentive and caring manager and very attached to his staff members. He was an active and involved board member, and above all, Yossi was a friend. We will miss him very much."
The five siblings of the Sharabi family from Tel Aviv form a warm and close-knit family. Yossi’s brother Sharon shares: “Yossi, a man renowned for his affection towards others, embodies care and unwavering commitment to everyone in his life, always radiating happiness. Yossi grew up in Tel Aviv and moved to kibbutz Be'eri 30 years ago, following his brother Eli, because he wanted to live a community lifestyle. We grew up in Tel Aviv, and this is quite a change, to move from such a busy place to such a quiet place, or at least a place that was quiet, until October 7."
Yossi was kidnapped from his home in Kibbutz Be'eri on October 7 along with his brother, Eli Sharabi, and his daughter’s boyfriend, 17-year-old Ofir Engel. Ofir was released from Hamas captivity as part of a temporary ceasefire agreement in late November. Eli Sharabi is still held hostage. His family and the entire nation await his safe return home.

Yossi Sharabi endured 102 long days in Hamas captivity before the IDF announced that he was tragically killed. He spent the last days of his life in an apartment in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza Strip, together with Noa Argamani and the late Itay Svirsky. On Tuesday January 16th, the family received the devastating announcement: "With a broken heart and deep sorrow, we were informed this evening about the murder of Itay Svirsky and Yossi Sharabi," said Kibbutz Be'eri. "Their bodies are held by Hamas. We will demand their return along with our other captives. Our hearts are with the families in their immense pain."
On Friday February 9th, the IDF published an investigation according to which Yossi Sharabi was most likely accidentally killed as a result of an IDF attack on a building nearby the location where he was held hostage. According to the investigation presented to the family, the IDF attacked the building following an intelligence warning that it was used by terrorists to launch an attack against Israeli forces.
Yossi Sharabi’s death is a devastating loss for the family, and they are committed to recovering his body and giving him the decent burial he deserves in Israel.
